A Course for UT International Faculty:

Advanced English Prose for Grant Writing

Are you missing out on grant money?
Do you need to improve your grant proposals?
Do you feel as though you may be missing out on research funding because your proposals aren’t well written?
Are your proposals not as clear as you would like?
Do you have good ideas that get lost in the rest of your writing?
Is it difficult to emphasize and link key concepts?
Do you have difficulty citing other sources?
Does your English ability affect how reviewers respond to your proposals?

Grant WritingThe UT Office of Research in combination with the English Language Institute (ELI) is offering a course to provide additional composition support to faculty whose first language is not English.  In this course, participants will look at several areas of the grant proposal where clarity of text plays an essential role.  In addition to looking at overall structure, participants will study how language can be used most effectively to present clear and concise ideas.  Participants will learn drafting and editing skills to make their texts academically appropriate and, hopefully, more successful as a result.

“The class was extremely helpful for me as it helped to systematically visualize the structure of grant writing as well as writing for research papers in general. I strongly recommend this class for any non-native faculty in particular, at any level of confidence in writing skills.”
- Seong-Hoon Cho, Associate Professor , Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics
